Pre Production- Filming Date and Camera Booking
On Thursday 1st March we booked out 2 cameras to film on Tuesday 6th March. As a group we felt that we needed more/better footage so Caitlyn took out a camera on 13th March and filmed some more scenes.
Pre Production- Screenplay- Costume Research
In our film noir we want our characters to wear clothes that are the stereotypical costume of their character. Our in our film noir we have two detectives and a picture of mysterious girl.
Detectives: Typically in film noirs characters like detectives look very respectable in clean suits.
Femme Fatale: In film noir films, femme falates are seen in quite posh gowns that will make them look seductive.

Pre Production- The Shoot
When we are shooting the scenes outside we will have 2 big torches with us that will hopefully light up the scene a bit as we are not aloud to take the lighting kit outside and also no one in our team had a lighting certificate so we can't use the kit. Our Actors are Ben Johnson and Jacob Sells who are playing the detectives and we have asked them to wear suits so they are coming in their prom suits.
Pre Production- Screenplay- Props
In our opening scene we used props such as cigarettes, alcohol, and a gun. All of those props are always seen in film noirs. Especially cigarettes and more or less everyone smoked in the times that film noirs were set. Also a gun is always seen as stereotypical plot lines in film noirs are mysteries or murders which a gun commonly used as the murder weapon.

Pre Production- Screenplay- Conventions We Used
In our film noir screenplay there are some aspects in it that has conventions of the film noir genre. For example in film noir they always have a femme fatale and we have included one in our film. Also the two main characters are two male detectives who are working on a murder case which are also conventions in the film noir genre. Also we have included props such as guns, cigarettes and alcohol which are also commonly used in a film noir.

Pre Production- Target Audience Questionnaire
After looking at all of our questionnaires we have seen that our target audience would be of an older age of about 50+. This would mostly be because film noir were quite popular about 40 years ago. We will add older charactrs, clothing style, props etc. to the production to make it appeal to our target audience. Overall the target audience for film noirs in general is about 50+ as they tend to be watched by people who have watched them from when they were popular and around a lot.

Lesson Diary- 2nd Feb
On the 2nd February 2012 we had a lesson where we could choose whether to complete blog tasks or work on our scripts. My group chose to work on our blog tasks so that is what we did.
Lesson Diary- 31st Jan
On the 21st January 2012 we had to bring in a printed copy of a first draft of our script so we could go round the class and read out our srcipt then get the class to give us feedback so we could make the script better. Over all my groups script got quite a lot of positive feedback and we just needed to re-think the names of our characterd as they didn't really suit the Film Noir genre.
Lesson Diary- 30th Jan
On the 30th January 2012 we did a script workshop lesson where Mr Sheppard taught up how to write a script properly and what sort of thing we would need to add like a breif character bio and exactly what is happening on screen in detail eg. costumes, facial expression, and what they are doing. Then for the last 15-20 mins of the lesson we got into our groups and started to make our scripts.
Lesson Diary- 24th Jan
On 24th January 2012 we had a lesson where we started to plan out our Film Noir opening scenes. In my team there is myself, Beth Wilson and Caitlyn Whittaker and together we made a spider diagram with ideas of a plot, character bios, and what other things we wanted to add like a narrator and then we wrote a basic plot separatly with exactly what we wanted to happen on screen.

Similar Products- Poster Analysis
1. You Only Live Once
In this film poster you can see that the 2 main characters are the man (who is in prison)and woman that are holding each other. This obviously represents that they are a couple and it represents that they do care a lot about each other this also links to the slogon "A terrifying drama of love and murder!". Also from the slogan you can tell that the film will be about their love. Also there is 2 men with 1 of them holding a gun to the other. The man holding the gun is also the man with the women which shows that the man is also the bad guy. The poster draws people in by making it look like the man in prison is being falsly accused or did something bad with good inentions as the girl is looking at him like he is a good man and has done nothing wrong.
2. The Man I Love
In this poster the main character is the women (she could be a femme fatale as this is big convention for women in film noir). The other character of screen is the man who is the person she loves. The main part of the poster is the picture of them together as it shows the connection between them and that the film will mostly be about their relationship. The main colour on the poster is red, this could mean love or blood or maybe both as its a film noir so it may have a murder in it which is a big convention. I think that the picture of the main characters will be the aspect that draws the audience in as it concentrates on their relationship and the love/hate look on their faces and also from the colour connotation.
3. Kill Killer Killing
This film poster is very different to the others. There are no characters in the poster at all, just 3 guns. This could show that the plot of the film and what is being shown on screen is more important than the characters. The red letters obviously represent the blood and murder that will be going on. The slogan translated to english means "atlas film from the series shows the gangster" from this slogan you obviously know there will be a lot of murder a sis it a gnagster film and it may be that ther eis one direct victim that the gangster group are after. The poster will draw the audience in by the title being in different fonts and colours and mmaking it look interesting.

1. Touch of Evil
Some of the things I would like do in my Film Noir production are in "Touch of Evil". I would like to use the same style of music, in the opening the music was very 1940s like which is a big convention in film noir. Also I would like to use there type of clothes, men in suits and women in long dresses. The shots are also very good as for the majority of the opening scene is on big tracking shot which looks very good.
2. The Third Man
The opening scene for The Third Man is very different to other film noir openings. The whole scene is just credits not an actual scene to the film. This is an idea of something that I will not want to do as it doesnt really tell you anything about the film or show any film noir conventions.
3. Sunset Boulevard
In the opening to this film noir film there is a voice over for more or less the whole thing. This is something I would like to think about putting into my opening scene. As well as being able to see what is going on in the scene you can also hear it which I think can sometimes give a better understanding of the film.

"Film noir is a cinematic term used primarily to describe stylish Hollywood crime dramas, particularly those that emphasize cynical attitudes and sexual motivations. Hollywood's classic film noir period is generally regarded as extending from the early 1940s to the late 1950s. Film noir of this era is associated with a low-key black-and-white visual style that has roots in German Expressionist cinematography. Many of the prototypical stories and much of the attitude of classic noir derive from the hardboiled school of crime fiction that emerged in the United States during the Depression."
